We wanted to take a moment and give everyone an update on the situation with classes. As things stand, because we’re a contact sport and all of our current venues are indoor venues, the return of normal classes is still a way off yet, let alone beginners classes. We’re currently looking at the possibilities for some outdoor classes sooner than that, but these will initially be for current students who don’t require any loaner gear, and focussing on solo drills. After we see how those work out, and how the situation progresses, we’ll then develop things further in that direction if we need to, or shift indoors and start getting back towards normal if the situation allows.
Beginners classes are, unfortunately, postponed indefinitely. There’s only a limited amount we can usefully do with beginners before we need to put a fencing mask on them and give them the experience of feedback from two person drills. Obviously with the situation as it is, we want to avoid inter-person use of communal loaner equipment, especially in the form of fabric lined headgear like our fencing masks. For current students that need loaner equipment we have just enough to possibly be able to put a system in place where each mask is numbered, and each student adopts a specific fencing mask, uses only it, and is responsible for keeping it clean and disinfecting it.
We’ll get everyone back and training as soon as it is safe and responsible to do so. In the meantime, do please follow us on Facebook and sign up to the mailing list if you haven’t already. As soon as we have news about getting back to training, we’ll post it to both places. If anyone has any specific questions, do feel free to give us a shout either here or on Facebook.
